Opening Soon: AFC’s IACC

Indigenous Arts & Cultural Centre

Where We’re Growing Together

AFC’s IACC at 287 Laura Street

Visit us this September to learn more about IACC

Completion of renovation is nearly there!

The neighbourhood we operate in is vastly underserved, and at present, there is no community centre. There are a number of available supports for people facing immediate homelessness and some limited childcare supports, but no services for individuals and families living in the neighbourhood, especially Indigenous community members.

Located at 287 Laura Street, the Indigenous Arts & Cultural Centre will be a hub of local artistry, culinary expertise, and cultural opportunities. With support from Indigenous artists living and working in the community, the IACC will offer opportunities for community members to learn and grow in all ways.

The IACC will offer opportunities for our Indigenous community members to engage in teaching about traditional foods, growing traditional medicines and herbs, pow wow dancing, intergenerational mentorship, and activities such as building sacred fires and hosting ceremonies. It is our goal that the entire community will access our centre, as the variety of programming is aimed to meet the vast needs of the neighbourhood.

The completed IACC will feature programming space, a fully commercial kitchen, an outdoor Indigenous Prairie Education Centre which is home to the Four Traditional Medicines along with other culturally significant plants and foods, a Grannies Room, led by local Indigenous Elders for support and guidance as needed for the IACC and all community members, our Indigenous children’s program Flora House, as well as a Maker’s Space, led by local artists, musicians, and makers.

Stay tuned for our updated name of the IACC following a traditional naming ceremony.
